The Symphony of the Spheres
Long before music became entertainment, it was understood as the language of the cosmos
The oldest traditions heard the sounds of the universe not as those of a lifeless machinery, but as those of a living order — movement, numbers, and vibrations arising from a single intelligence. They called it the Music of the Spheres: the heavens scale proportionally, and these proportions, made audible, become music.
The Symphony of the Spheres is where this ancient understanding meets the body. The place where the cosmic order, that astrology maps and Tantra transmutes, can be met directly — as sound.
the lineage
Pythagoras found that harmony is based on proportions: halve a string and it sounds an octave higher or lower. The same ratios that ordered a string were thought to order the planets — one vast chord no ear could isolate. Two thousand years later Kepler measured it, and found that the planets, at their changing speeds, truly trace melodic lines. Chasing that music, he uncovered the law that still governs every orbit.
Rudolf Steiner carried the hearing inward. Tone, he taught, is not only physical but a threshold of the soul — and through eurythmy he let the movement of tone become movement of the body. This is the turn the whole work rests on: sound as something the body undergoes, not merely hears.
what i do
I take that lineage out of theory and into composition. From a birth chart — its signs, its planets, the angles between them — I write music that carries the pattern the chart holds.
Translate any natal chart into a musical journey — the sky of your birth rendered as a piece that moves the way your life is asking you to move.
Build planetary symphonies — each planet with its voice and function, sounds together with others as a living architecture.
Compose zodiacal cycles — the twelve archetypes as a turning wheel of keys, each with its own harmonic climate.
Create evolutionary harmonic maps — sounds that attune you from core wound to the evolved state of your being, scored so the passage can be felt and not only understood.
The language I compose in
The notes are Western, the grammar is tantric. I compose out of the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, where sound is not decoration but the ground of the real. Four words hold the method:
Nāda — sound as the origin of things, the tone beneath all tones. To compose is to return audible music toward its source.
Spanda — the subtle pulse of consciousness itself, the throb from which all movement arises. The planets' motion and the music's pulse are one spanda.
Rasa — the essence, the savor. Each chart, each sign, carries a flavor that music can distill until it is tasted directly, in the body.
Līlā — divine play. The work is composed as participation in that play, never as control of it.
Astrology gives the map, Tantra gives the alchemy, and here the two are played — so that the order the mind has understood, is remembered by the body.
A bridge
I stand on a bridge between worlds that rarely speak to each other.
Between Pythagoras, who heard the ratio in the heavens; Steiner, who made tone visible in the body; Dionysius the Areopagite, who ordered the cosmos into hierarchies of intelligence; and Schönberg, who drew the circle of keys that still holds Western music together — and, on the other side, the great tantric masters, who knew sound as the pulse of consciousness long before it was written down.
This is the deepest layer of the work, and the last to arrive. It asks for a body already willing to feel, and a person already walking through their own void. To those who are, it offers what no interpretation can: the cosmic harmony met not as an idea but as something moving through them — carrying the psyche past the wound, toward the evolved state that is waiting on the other side.
The heavens have been sounding well before we could name them. This work is part of the longstanding attempt to listen — and to let what is heard do its slow, transmuting work.
